Musical Theater Audtion Classes

Class dates to be announced. Please check back for updates.

This class is designed to improve upon the actor’s musical theater audition skills through song interpretation and the playing of action. The instructing team has a combined total of over 65 years in the Broadway Musical Theater, working with actors and taking performers through the audition process from their first entrance to their Tony Award-winning performances. Arnold J. Mungioli is responsible for the casting of RAGTIME, SHOWBOAT, KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN, FOSSE, Disney’s THE LION KING, WHEN YOU WISH, and ALADDIN as well as shows currently running in this year’s NEW YORK MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL, NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL, the currently running EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, and Richard Maltby’s THE SIXTIES PROJECT. You will bring two songs to work on over the five weeks of this class. Work shall include specific exercises on text, music, and interpretation. The final class shall culminate in a simulated professional audition in which you will perform both of your songs consecutively. Afterward, you will meet with the Casting Director and the Music Director for a private individual assessment and feedback of what to work on for the future. The overall focus of the class is to strengthen choices you have made with the material, and explore a better understanding of this work, as well as how to make the stakes higher for yourself. The result is that your audition songs are more effective and your audition experiences yield greater results.

Private Coachings

Available by appointment

Private audition coachings may be scheduled by appointment. Coaching sessions are generally one hour in length, and may focus on audition copy, monologues or songs brought with the actor to the session. The focus of these sessions is to help you clarify choices made with the material, and to build upon your natural instincts so that you are able to enter the audition bringing more to the table with the ultimate aim of booking the job.
